Oh that red, white and blue
Proud to be an American...and a sister. Showing my patriotism is a daily routine. It holds a special place in my heart because of my sister Adrienne. Adrienne is a lieutenant in the United States Navy. She attended the United States Naval Academy and went on to become an Intelligence officer. Although she currently lives in England, I know firsthand that she's the hardest worker I've ever seen. She's passionate about her country, dedicated and works to serve others. She's also the only person I know to own as much red, white and blue clothing, decorations and knick knacks in the world. Regardless of her obsession for Old Glory, she's my role model and best friend.
If there's one thing this country lacks, it's a love and appreciation for our military. So I have a challenge for my viewers. Go out and find an active or retired military person and do one thing....say 'thank you.'
It's easy and best of all - FREE.
As a reporter I've heard hundreds of stories, but as the sister of a Naval Officer I've heard stories that can honestly take your breath away. Everyday those in the military have to deal with distance, death and destruction. It's not an easy lifestyle, but it's one they deal with because of their passion for their country.
Everyday you drive your car, go to school, shop at the grocery store, or take a walk in the park is because someone, somewhere is fighting for your freedom.
There is one thing my mom always told me growing up ...."nothing in life is free." Everyday soldiers, sailors and officers risk their lives so that every American is guaranteed their freedom.
If it weren't for the men and women serving our country we would not be able to live and thrive in the world we do.
So when life seems to get the best of you, take a second to think about the people you have in your life.
Everyday millions of Americans go to bed not knowing where their husband, wife, sister, brother, daughter, son, etc. ( you catch my drift) is because they are deployed overseas. Technology like Skype and Facebook have crossed oceans to connect military families, but you'll never know what it's like to miss a loved one when they are far away. But when all is said and done, I can't help but smile knowing my sister, and every other person in the military, is doing what the 'average' American can't and won't do...and that's risking their lives so that others, like their families, can live the American dream.
Go Navy, Beat Army! and God Bless the USA
